Some interesting ideas here, but your technique and possibly your equipment is holding you back with regard the image quality.
To start with, getting more light on the subject will enable you to do more with the iamges in post-production. Use of a camera with more advanced setting will allow you to regulate the exposure more easily and will give you more scope to achieve the effects you're aiming for.
